Praying the Scriptures

Friday Evening Prayer

September 13, 2024

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God— not the result of works, so that no one may boast. (Ephesians 2:8–9)

Gracious and Loving God,

As the day draws to a close, we come before You with hearts full of gratitude. We thank You for the gift of this day, for the moments of joy, and for the lessons learned in times of challenge. We are reminded in Your Word that it is by grace we have been saved through faith, and this is not from ourselves; it is Your precious gift, not by our works, so that no one may boast.

Help us, O Lord, to rest in the assurance of Your grace. In a world that often demands our striving and our toil, grant us the peace of knowing that our worth comes from You alone. Teach us to trust in Your love that is freely given, not earned, and to extend that same grace to others in our lives.

As the stars begin to shine and the night wraps around us, we ask for Your protection and Your peace. Calm our restless hearts and quiet our minds. Forgive us for the times we have fallen short today, and help us to walk more closely with You tomorrow.

May Your grace, which surpasses all understanding, fill our hearts and guide our steps. Keep us always mindful of the truth that we are saved by grace through faith, and may this truth be our comfort and our strength.

In the stillness of this evening, we surrender all that we are into Your loving hands, trusting in Your mercy and resting in Your embrace.

In the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Redeemer, we pray.

Amen.

May this prayer bring you peace and comfort this evening.
