Praying the Scriptures

Saturday Evening Prayer

December 13, 2025

“A new heart I will give you, and a new spirit I will put within you; and I will remove from your body the heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. I will put my spirit within you, and make you follow my statutes and be careful to observe my ordinances.”Ezekiel 36:26–27

Lord,

As night settles softly around me on this Saturday of the Second Week of Advent, I come before You in the quiet, seeking the renewal You promise—a new heart and a new spirit shaped by Your grace. The day has worn on my thoughts and my resolve, and I feel the places where my heart has grown weary, where resistance still clings like shadows at the edges of my soul. I ask You now to breathe gently into these tired places, softening what has become hardened and restoring what has been strained by worry, distraction, or doubt. Let Your Spirit move within me tonight as a calming wind, clearing away what does not belong and opening my inner life to Your transforming presence.

As I reflect on this day, I recognize where I have fallen short—moments when impatience overtook mercy, when fear edged out trust, when old habits tugged me away from the path You are shaping in me. In this stillness, I surrender these burdens to You, trusting that Your mercy is deeper than my failures and Your desire to renew me stronger than my tendency to wander. Teach me the humility to repent sincerely and the courage to walk forward in grace rather than shame. As darkness wraps the world outside, wrap my spirit in Your peace and remind me that You are near, working in ways unseen.

Tonight, I watch and pray with quiet hope, waiting for the coming light of Your Son. Form my heart to be ready for His arrival—open, tender, and willing to follow where Your Spirit leads. In this sacred Advent hush, deepen my trust, steady my steps, and renew my longing for the fullness of Your life within me.

Amen.

May the peace of the God who renews hearts and leads us by the Spirit rest upon us all tonight, guiding us into deeper hope and readiness for the coming Light.
