Praying the Scriptures

Saturday Evening Prayer

December 20, 2025

“This is the one about whom it is written, ‘See, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.’”Matthew 11:10

Lord,

As this quiet Saturday night settles around me, I pause in the soft glow of Your presence and let my heart rest in the promise of Your coming. Like a lone lantern flickering along a desert path, Your word reminds me that You are sending a messenger to make the way ready. In this stillness, I listen for that voice calling me to prepare room within myself for the joy that draws near.

In the hush of this Advent evening, I feel the gentle anticipation of Your approach—subtle yet steady, like footsteps in the sand just beyond the ridge. I admit that there are places in my heart still cluttered with worry and distraction, but Your light reveals them with kindness rather than condemnation. Teach me to clear the path, to lift my eyes toward the horizon, and to welcome the One whose presence transforms even the darkest night.

As I wait, I cling to the joy that begins to rise within me, not loud or triumphant, but warm and steady, like the lantern I carry through the desert’s cooling air. You are near, Lord Jesus—near enough that the stillness trembles with hope. Prepare me to receive You with gratitude, with openness, and with a heart ready to follow wherever Your light leads.

Amen.

May the quiet joy of Christ’s nearness guide us all through the night and prepare our hearts to welcome His light with hope and peace.
