Praying the Scriptures
Friday Evening Prayer
September 6, 2024
But when Jesus saw this, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it.” (Mark 10:14–15)
Gracious and Loving God,
As the day draws to a close, we come before You with hearts open like little children, yearning to rest in Your presence. We remember the words of Jesus, who welcomed the children, saying, "Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs."
Lord, help us to approach You with childlike faith, trust, and wonder. Strip away the burdens of the day, the doubts and fears that weigh heavily upon us. Teach us to lean on You with the simplicity and purity of a child’s love and to trust in Your promises without reservation.
May we lay down our worries and anxieties, surrendering them into Your capable hands. Grant us the grace to receive Your kingdom with open hearts, free from cynicism or pride, ready to embrace the fullness of Your love and mercy.
As we close our eyes this night, fill us with Your peace. Surround us with Your protection, and grant us rest that refreshes our bodies and renews our spirits. May we wake tomorrow with renewed joy, eager to serve You and others in the light of Your love.
In Jesus’ holy name, we pray.
Amen.
May this prayer bring you peace and comfort this evening.
