Praying the Scriptures

Thursday Evening Prayer

September 12, 2024

When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed; this must take place, but the end is still to come. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be earthquakes in various places; there will be famines. This is but the beginning of the birth pangs. … And the good news must first be proclaimed to all nations. … And you will be hated by all because of my name. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. (Mark 13:7–8,10, 13)

Heavenly Father,

As the day draws to a close, we come before You with hearts seeking peace and solace. In Your word, You remind us not to be alarmed when we hear of wars and rumors of wars, for such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nations may rise against nations, and kingdoms against kingdoms; there may be earthquakes and famines in various places. Yet, in all these trials and tribulations, You call us to stand firm in our faith, trusting in Your eternal promise.

Lord, we acknowledge the troubles of this world and the fears that often grip our hearts. We pray for strength and courage to endure, knowing that Your love is our refuge. Help us to remember that, even in the midst of chaos and uncertainty, the gospel must first be proclaimed to all nations. Empower us to be Your witnesses, sharing the message of hope and salvation wherever You lead us.

May we not grow weary or lose heart, but remain steadfast in our commitment to You. We take comfort in Your promise that those who endure to the end will be saved. In this quiet moment, we ask for Your peace to wash over us, for Your wisdom to guide us, and for Your Spirit to fill us with renewed faith and courage.

As we lay down to rest, grant us the assurance of Your presence and the comfort of Your love. Keep us safe through the night, and awaken us with renewed purpose to serve You in the days to come.

In Jesus' name, we pray.

Amen.

May this prayer bring you peace and comfort as you end your day.
