Praying the Scriptures

Tuesday Evening Prayer

September 24, 2024

Very truly, I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains just a single grain; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. Those who love their life lose it, and those who hate their life in this world will keep it for eternal life. (John 12:24–25)

Heavenly Father,

As the sun sets and the day draws to a close, we gather in Your presence with grateful hearts. In the quiet of this evening, we reflect on the words of Your Son, Jesus, who taught us the mystery of the grain of wheat that must fall to the earth and die, so it might bear much fruit.

Lord, help us to embrace the sacrifices that life demands, knowing that in letting go, we gain the true treasures of Your kingdom. Teach us to serve and not be served, to give and not count the cost, and to lose our lives for Your sake, in the assurance that it is in giving that we receive, and in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Grant us the courage to let go of our burdens and worries, trusting that in You, they will be transformed into new life. May this night bring restoration and peace, and prepare us for a new day to serve You with a renewed spirit and a willing heart.

In the name of Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Amen.

May this prayer bring you peace and comfort this evening.
