Praying the Scriptures

Friday Evening Prayer

October 4, 2024

Then looking up to heaven, he sighed and said to him, “Ephphatha,” that is, “Be opened.” And immediately his ears were opened, his tongue was released, and he spoke plainly. (Mark 7:34–35)

Heavenly Father,

As we gather this evening under the shelter of Your grace, we pause to reflect on the healing words of Your Son, "Ephphatha," which means, "Be opened."

Just as Jesus looked up to heaven and sighed for the man who was deaf and had an impediment in his speech, we, too, lift our eyes to You, Lord, seeking Your mercy. In the stillness of this night, we ask You to open our ears to hear Your voice clearly, unencumbered by the distractions of this world.

Open our mouths, O Lord, not only that we may speak but that we may speak Your truth. Let our words be vessels of Your peace and love. May we proclaim Your goodness and sing praises of Your deeds.

As You have opened our ears and loosened our tongues, let our hearts also be opened—wide to the needs of those around us, sensitive to the suffering and receptive to the call of righteousness.

In Your divine wisdom, guide us through this night and into the coming days. Strengthen us to walk in the path of compassion and integrity, reflecting Your light in every step.

We thank You for the gift of restoration, for the promise of renewal, and for the endless grace that You pour upon us.

In the name of Jesus Christ, our healer and redeemer, we pray,

Amen.

May this prayer bring you peace and comfort this evening.
