Morning Devotions with Cap'n Kenny - Spreading the Joy

Spreading the Joy

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
~ Isaiah 9:6 (NIV)

The Christmas spirit — the real spirit, the tremendous joy at celebrating God's incarnation to save us from our sins — is downright contagious. This is not the happiness of seeing pretty decorations or having new bicycles and game boxes, or drinking eggnog. It is the more enduring and real knowledge that God loves us and proved it to us, 2,000 years ago, by sending us Himself wrapped in a package that looked just like us. When we give presents, when we give the gift of love, when we become generous, we imitate God.

So, spread the good news. The news is just as good as we head into 2018 as it was in 3 A.D. There is something better than the greedy and self-centered world we live in, something better than slowly growing feeble and dying. There is true goodness and eternal life, available for all who would come to worship the little baby, humbly lying in a feed trough in a barn. Of all places!
God of love, Father of all, the darkness that covered the earth has given way to the bright dawn of your Word made flesh. Make us a people of this light. Make us faithful to your Word, that we may bring your life to the waiting world. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen
In Jesus,
Cap'n Kenny
