(Revised Common Lectionary Year C)

Psalm 138
Thanksgiving and Praise
Of David.
1  I give you thanks, O Lord, with my whole heart;
     before the gods I sing your praise;
2  I bow down toward your holy temple
     and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness;
     for you have exalted your name and your word
     above everything.
3  On the day I called, you answered me,
     you increased my strength of soul.

4  All the kings of the earth shall praise you, O Lord,
     for they have heard the words of your mouth.
5  They shall sing of the ways of the Lord,
     for great is the glory of the Lord.
6  For though the Lord is high, he regards the lowly;
     but the haughty he perceives from far away.

7  Though I walk in the midst of trouble,
     you preserve me against the wrath of my enemies;
   you stretch out your hand,
     and your right hand delivers me.
8  The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me;
     your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever.
     Do not forsake the work of your hands.

Judges 3:7-11
Othniel
3:7 The Israelites did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, forgetting the Lord their God, and worshiping the Baals and the Asherahs. 8 Therefore the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of King Cushan-rishathaim of Aram-naharaim; and the Israelites served Cushan-rishathaim eight years. 9 But when the Israelites cried out to the Lord, the Lord raised up a deliverer for the Israelites, who delivered them, Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother. 10 The spirit of the Lord came upon him, and he judged Israel; he went out to war, and the Lord gave King Cushan-rishathaim of Aram into his hand; and his hand prevailed over Cushan-rishathaim. 11 So the land had rest forty years. Then Othniel son of Kenaz died.

Luke 4:42-44
Jesus Preaches in the Synagogues
4:42 At daybreak he departed and went into a deserted place. And the crowds were looking for him; and when they reached him, they wanted to prevent him from leaving them. 43 But he said to them, “I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other cities also; for I was sent for this purpose.” 44 So he continued proclaiming the message in the synagogues of Judea.

Optional parts of the readings are set off in square brackets.

The Daily Lectionary is a three year cyclical lectionary. We are currently in Year C. Beginning with the first Sunday of Advent in 2019, we will be in Year A. The year which ended at Advent 2018 was Year B. These readings complement the Sunday and festival readings: Thursday through Saturday readings help prepare the reader for the Sunday ahead; Monday through Wednesday readings help the reader reflect and digest on what they heard in worship.
