The Value of Wisdom
Proverbs 2

The Daily Lectionary
THURSDAY, May 23, 2019
(Revised Common Lectionary Year C)

Psalm 67
The Nations Called to Praise God
To the leader: with stringed instruments. A Psalm. A Song.
1  May God be gracious to us and bless us
     and make his face to shine upon us,   Selah
2  that your way may be known upon earth,
     your saving power among all nations.
3  Let the peoples praise you, O God;
     let all the peoples praise you.

4  Let the nations be glad and sing for joy,
     for you judge the peoples with equity
     and guide the nations upon earth.   Selah
5  Let the peoples praise you, O God;
     let all the peoples praise you.

6  The earth has yielded its increase;
     God, our God, has blessed us.
7  May God continue to bless us;
     let all the ends of the earth revere him.

Proverbs 2:1-5
The Value of Wisdom
2:1 My child, if you accept my words
     and treasure up my commandments within you,
2  making your ear attentive to wisdom
     and inclining your heart to understanding;
3  if you indeed cry out for insight,
     and raise your voice for understanding;
4  if you seek it like silver,
     and search for it as for hidden treasures—
5  then you will understand the fear of the Lord
     and find the knowledge of God.

Acts 15:36-41
Paul and Barnabas Separate
15:36 After some days Paul said to Barnabas, “Come, let us return and visit the believers in every city where we proclaimed the word of the Lord and see how they are doing.” 37 Barnabas wanted to take with them John called Mark. 38 But Paul decided not to take with them one who had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not accompanied them in the work. 39 The disagreement became so sharp that they parted company; Barnabas took Mark with him and sailed away to Cyprus. 40 But Paul chose Silas and set out, the believers commending him to the grace of the Lord. 41 He went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches.

The Daily Lectionary is a three year cyclical lectionary. We are currently in Year C. Beginning with the first Sunday of Advent in 2019, we will be in Year A. The year which ended at Advent 2018 was Year B. These readings complement the Sunday and festival readings: Thursday through Saturday readings help prepare the reader for the Sunday ahead; Monday through Wednesday readings help the reader reflect and digest on what they heard in worship.
