Paul's prayer for the Ephesians saints armor of God

The Daily Lectionary
THURSDAY, June 13, 2019
(Revised Common Lectionary Year C)

Psalm 8
Divine Majesty and Human Dignity
To the leader: according to The Gittith. A Psalm of David.
1  O Lord, our Sovereign,
     how majestic is your name in all the earth!
   You have set your glory above the heavens.
2    Out of the mouths of babes and infants
   you have founded a bulwark because of your foes,
     to silence the enemy and the avenger.

3  When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
     the moon and the stars that you have established;
4  what are human beings that you are mindful of them,
     mortals that you care for them?

5  Yet you have made them a little lower than God,
     and crowned them with glory and honor.
6  You have given them dominion over the works of your hands;
     you have put all things under their feet,
7  all sheep and oxen,
     and also the beasts of the field,
8  the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea,
     whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

9  O Lord, our Sovereign,
     how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Proverbs 3:13-18
The True Wealth
3:13 Happy are those who find wisdom,
     and those who get understanding,
14 for her income is better than silver,
     and her revenue better than gold.
15 She is more precious than jewels,
     and nothing you desire can compare with her.
16 Long life is in her right hand;
     in her left hand are riches and honor.
17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness,
     and all her paths are peace.
18 She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her;
     those who hold her fast are called happy.

Ephesians 1:17-19
1:17 I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation as you come to know him, 18 so that, with the eyes of your heart enlightened, you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance among the saints, 19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power for us who believe, according to the working of his great power.

Optional parts of the readings are set off in [square brackets.]

The Daily Lectionary is a three year cyclical lectionary. We are currently in Year C. Beginning with the first Sunday of Advent in 2019, we will be in Year A. The year which ended at Advent 2018 was Year B. These readings complement the Sunday and festival readings: Thursday through Saturday readings help prepare the reader for the Sunday ahead; Monday through Wednesday readings help the reader reflect and digest on what they heard in worship.
