Matthew 20:17-19Now Jesus was going up to Jerusalem. On the way, he took the Twelve aside and said to them, “We are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day he will be raised to life!”Imagine yourself as one of the disciples in the story, and you’re on your way to Jerusalem with Jesus. The road is dusty and dirty, and the sun is beating down. As you travel, Jesus begins speaking and predicts His death for a third time. What do you think about this? Are you confused, maybe even concerned? Jesus’ warning about the nature of his path did not apparently register with his disciples. This might be due to the fact that Jesus so often spoke in parables and metaphors.
