Sunday Morning Prayer
November 24, 2024
Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets; I have come not to abolish but to fulfill.… For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:17, 20)
Heavenly Father,
As I greet this brisk November morning in the beauty of New Mexico, I come before You with a heart seeking understanding and fulfillment of Your Law. You have told us through Your Son, "Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets; I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven."
Lord, as the mountains stand firm against the horizon and the chill air fills my lungs, let Your words be the foundation upon which I build my day. Teach me to exceed the righteousness of old, not through outward compliance alone, but through a heart transformed by Your grace and mercy. Let my actions reflect a deeper adherence to Your will, a will that embraces justice, kindness, and humility.
As the sun rises and touches the land with its warmth, light up my path with Your wisdom. Help me to understand the true spirit of Your commands, to live out Your love in every word I speak and in every action I take. May my life be a testament to the fulfillment of the Law through love, compassion, and a steadfast commitment to justice.
In this sacred moment of prayer, amidst the vast landscapes You have crafted, I am reminded of Your greatness and my own need for Your guiding hand. Lead me this day, O Lord, to live in a way that honors You and brings Your kingdom closer to the hearts of those around me.
In the name of Jesus, who fulfills all, I pray,
Amen.
