Praying the Scriptures

Friday Evening Prayer

December 27, 2024

Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he has looked favorably on his people and redeemed them. He has raised up a mighty savior for us in the house of his servant David. (Luke 1:68–69)

Heavenly Father,

Blessed are You, Lord, the God of Israel, for You have looked favorably upon Your people and redeemed us. You have raised up a mighty savior for us in the house of Your servant David. As I reflect on Your goodness this evening, my heart overflows with gratitude for the gift of Jesus, who came into this world to bring salvation and peace.

On this third day of Christmas, I pause to marvel at the miracle of Christ’s birth and the fulfillment of Your promises. Just as the land around me speaks of resilience and beauty—the rugged mesas and the radiant sunsets that paint the New Mexican sky—so does Your love endure and illuminate even the most shadowed places of my soul.

Lord, as I rest beneath the stars that once guided shepherds and kings to Your Son, I ask for Your guidance in my own life. Let my steps, though imperfect, lead me ever closer to Your will. Fill my heart with the courage to proclaim Your name boldly and the humility to serve others with kindness and compassion.

Tonight, I lift up my prayers for this land and its people. Bless the communities of the desert Southwest, with their rich heritage and enduring faith. May we all find unity in the joy and hope that this Christmas season brings.

As I lay down to rest, I entrust myself to Your care. Surround me with Your peace, guard my heart with Your love, and awaken me tomorrow with renewed strength to follow Your light.

In the name of Jesus Christ, my Savior, I pray.

Amen.

May this prayer bring you peace and comfort this evening.
