Praying the Scriptures

Monday Evening Prayer

December 23, 2024

Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and through grace gave us eternal comfort and good hope, comfort your hearts and strengthen them in every good work and word. (2 Thessalonians 2:16–17)

Heavenly Father,

As the sun dips behind the desert hills, painting the sky with hues of gold and rose, I quiet my heart in Your presence this Advent evening. The cool desert air reminds me of the hope and stillness that this season brings. You, O Lord, have given me eternal comfort and good hope through Your grace.

I rest tonight in the assurance of Your love, steadfast and unchanging. May this truth fill every corner of my soul, warming me like a hearth on a cold December night. Strengthen my weary heart, Lord, as I journey toward the joy of Christmas. In the midst of preparations, let my hands be guided by Your peace and my words by Your love.

In this sacred season, I ask that You encourage me in every good work and word. Help me to shine Your light in the lives of those around me, especially in the quiet moments of kindness. Whether in the company of friends or in solitude beneath the star-filled New Mexican sky, may my life reflect the grace and hope You so freely give.

As I light the Advent candles tonight, I pray that their soft glow mirrors the light of Your Son, who came to dwell among us. May His love fill my home, my heart, and the world.

I entrust this evening to You, my Comforter and my King. Keep me in Your peace until the dawn brings new mercies.

Amen.

May this prayer bring solace and inspiration as you end your day in reflection and peace.
