Praying the Scriptures
Friday Evening Prayer
January 10, 2025
Comfort, O comfort my people, says your God. Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and cry to her that she has served her term, that her penalty is paid, that she has received from the LORD’S hand double for all her sins. (Isaiah 40:1-2)
Heavenly Father,
As the cool desert air settles around me and the distant stars begin to twinkle in the vast January sky, I pause in the quiet of this moment to draw near to You. Your Word speaks tenderly to my heart tonight: "Comfort, O comfort my people, says your God. Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and cry to her that she has served her term, that her penalty is paid."
Lord, I feel Your comforting presence in the stillness of this desert evening. The rugged mountains and wide-open spaces remind me of Your enduring strength, yet Your gentle whispers fill me with peace. Thank You for being my refuge and my source of hope, even in the wilderness of life’s trials.
Father, I bring before You the burdens I’ve carried today, knowing that through Christ, my sins are forgiven and my struggles are known. I trust that Your mercy flows like a cool breeze through this desert landscape, refreshing my soul and renewing my strength.
As I gaze at the horizon, where the day surrenders to night, I am reminded of Your faithfulness. Just as the sun sets and rises without fail, Your promises endure forever. May I rest in Your assurance that the hardships I face will pass, and Your redemption is always at work in my life.
Grant me the grace to share Your comfort with others, Lord. Let my words be tender and my actions reflect Your love, so that those around me may also find peace in Your embrace.
Guide me, O God, through this evening and into the promise of a new day. May my heart remain steadfast, my spirit uplifted, and my soul ever anchored in Your unending grace.
In the name of Your Son, my Savior, Jesus Christ, I pray.
Amen.
May this prayer bring you peace and comfort as you end your day.
