Praying the Scriptures
Wednesday Evening Prayer
January 8, 2025
The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!” The Lord replied, “If you had faith the size of a mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.” (Luke 17:5–6)
Gracious Lord,
As the crisp January evening settles over the desert, I feel the coolness of the air mingling with the warmth of Your presence. The vast sky above is filled with stars that remind me of Your infinite promises, and the whispering wind through the sagebrush speaks of Your gentle encouragement.
Lord, tonight I echo the disciples' prayer: "Increase my faith." Even as small as a mustard seed, my faith feels so fragile at times, yet You promise that such faith is powerful enough to uproot trees and move mountains. Help me trust in Your strength rather than my own limitations, knowing that with You, nothing is impossible.
The beauty of this New Mexican land, where ancient mesas stand resolute, reminds me of the steadfastness You desire in my heart. Let my faith, though small, be anchored in Your eternal Word. Help me face the challenges of each day with confidence in Your grace, believing that You are always at work in my life.
As I close this day in prayer, I thank You for Your faithfulness. Forgive my doubts and uncertainties, and plant within me a faith that grows strong and enduring, like the hardy plants that thrive in this desert soil. Guide my steps tomorrow, that I may walk boldly in obedience, trusting fully in Your power and love.
In the name of Jesus, whose faith never wavered, I pray.
Amen.
May this prayer bring you comfort and strength as you reflect on God's promises this evening.
