Praying the Scriptures
Sunday Morning Prayer
January 5, 2025
The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and for those who sat in the region and shadow of death light has dawned. (Matthew 4:16)
Gracious and Loving God,
As I awaken to the dawn of this blessed day, my heart rejoices in the light You have brought into this world. The Scripture proclaims, “The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and for those who sat in the region and shadow of death, light has dawned.” Today, I feel that light shining upon me, filling me with the hope and promise of Your presence.
On this 12th day of Christmas, as the celebration of Christ’s birth draws to its conclusion, I am reminded that Your light never fades. Like the sun rising over the New Mexican desert, it warms my soul, casting away shadows and illuminating my path.
Lord, let my heart be as open as the vast skies above this land. Fill me with Your Spirit so that I may reflect Your light to others. May my words and actions today bring encouragement to the weary, hope to the downtrodden, and joy to all whom I encounter.
I give thanks for the gifts of this season—the love of family, the fellowship of friends, and the beauty of creation that surrounds me. I see You, Lord, in the mountains, the sagebrush, and the ever-changing colors of the New Mexico sky. Even in the stillness of the desert, Your light shines brightly, a constant reminder of Your faithfulness.
As I go forth this day, may I walk as a child of the light, carrying the good news of Jesus Christ in my heart. Let the light of Christ guide my steps and dispel any fear or uncertainty that may linger in my soul.
In the name of the One who is the Light of the World, Jesus Christ, I pray.
Amen.
I hope this prayer brings you peace and inspiration for your day.
