Praying the Scriptures
Friday Evening Prayer
February 14, 2025
Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us. (Romans 5:1-5)
Gracious and loving God,
As the desert sky fades into twilight and the cool breeze whispers through the mesquite and sage, I come before You with a heart full of gratitude. On this Valentine’s Day, a day of love and devotion, I lift my soul to You, the source of all love, the One who first loved me.
Through Christ, I have been justified by faith, and in Him, I find peace. This peace is not of this world, fleeting like the desert wind, but a deep and abiding peace that anchors my soul. No matter the trials of the day or the uncertainties of tomorrow, I stand firm in the hope of Your glory.
Lord, in love, You have called me to rejoice not only in the blessings but also in the struggles. Like the rugged mountains of this land, trials shape me, refining my spirit and strengthening my faith. Suffering produces endurance, endurance builds character, and character blossoms into hope—a hope that does not disappoint, for Your love has been poured into my heart through the Holy Spirit.
On this evening, as the stars begin to pierce the darkened sky, I reflect on the love You have given me—love shared in friendships, in family, and in the sacred bonds of marriage. I lift up those who feel lonely tonight, those yearning for companionship, and those whose hearts ache with loss. May they be comforted by the certainty of Your love, which never falters and never fades.
Let me be an instrument of that love, Lord. May my words be kind, my actions compassionate, and my heart ever open to Your will. In the gentle hush of this desert night, I rest in the assurance that Your love sustains me, now and always.
In the name of Christ, my Redeemer, my Hope, and my Love, I pray.
Amen.
May this prayer bring you peace and comfort this evening.
