Praying the Scriptures
Thursday Evening Prayer
February 13, 2025
Accept whatever befalls you, and in times of humiliation be patient. For gold is tested in the fire, and those found acceptable, in the furnace of humiliation. (Sirach 2:4-5)
Gracious and loving God,
As the cool desert air settles over the land and the twilight fades into a starlit sky, I come before You in quiet reflection. The winds of the day have softened, and the distant mountains stand as silent witnesses to Your enduring faithfulness.
Lord, You have called me to perseverance, reminding me that trials refine the spirit like gold in the fire. I bring before You the burdens of this day—its challenges, its uncertainties, and its moments of weariness. Strengthen my heart, O God, that I may not be discouraged by adversity but find in it a holy refining, a deepening of my trust in You.
As the stars emerge in their appointed places, I remember that You are my constant guide. In patience, I wait upon You. In steadfastness, I entrust my path to Your wisdom. Though hardships may come, I will not waver, for You are shaping me according to Your purpose.
Let this desert night be a time of peace, where my soul rests in the assurance of Your love. May I sleep in the shelter of Your mercy, and may the dawn bring new hope, renewed strength, and a heart ever more faithful to You.
In the name of Christ, my Savior, I pray.
Amen.
May this prayer bring you peace and comfort as you end your day.
