Praying the Scriptures
Sunday Evening Prayer
April 6, 2025
For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and him crucified. (1 Corinthians 2:2)
Lord Jesus,
As the sun dips low behind the Florida Mountains and the wind carries the soft scent of creosote and mesquite, I quiet my soul in Your presence. The desert, still warm from the day's sun, begins to hush, and I find peace beneath the wide New Mexico sky, painted now in strokes of gold and lavender.
Tonight, I lay aside the worries of this world and the weight of too many thoughts. Like Paul, I want to know nothing but You—Jesus Christ, and You crucified. Not just in my theology, but in the marrow of my bones. Let everything else fade, like the heat rising off the sand, until all that remains is the cross and Your love poured out.
Help me walk humbly in that knowledge tomorrow. Let my words be few but filled with grace. Let my heart beat with the same compassion that held You to the tree. In the simplicity of Your Gospel, there is power. In Your suffering, there is my salvation.
I thank You for this day—the wind in the cottonwoods, the sound of mourning doves settling in, the distant coyotes calling one another across the flats. Your creation sings You a lullaby. Let my heart sing too.
As night blankets this high desert land, cover me in Your mercy. Give me rest, Lord—not just sleep, but that deep soul-rest that comes only from knowing I am Yours.
In Your holy name I pray,
Amen.
May the peace of Christ, who was crucified and risen, rest upon you this night and guide your heart with grace beneath the stars of the desert sky.
