Praying the Scriptures
Friday Evening Prayer
July 18, 2025
The hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such as these to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” (John 4:23–24)
Lord,
The sun has slipped behind Red Mountain, its last light brushed gently across the desert floor. The air is still now, and silence stretches wide between the creosote and mesquite, each branch holding the warmth of the day like a quiet memory.
I sit beneath this twilight sky, where the first stars begin to whisper their light into the darkening blue. And here, in this sacred hush, I come to worship—not with noise or ritual, but with spirit and truth, as You desire.
You are not bound by place or form. You are Spirit, eternal and near, filling the vastness above me and the stillness within me. I offer You this moment—my breath, my thoughts, my heart—without pretense. Just the truth of who I am, resting in the truth of who You are.
Thank You for the grace that carried me through the day, for the beauty that lingers in this desert dusk, and for the invitation to know You more deeply with each passing hour.
Let my worship rise like the stars—small, quiet, yet constant in their praise.
Amen.
May the peace of the Spirit settle over you like the desert night, and may your heart rest in the truth of God's abiding presence.
