Praying the Scriptures

Monday Evening Prayer

July 14, 2025

On that day I will answer, says the LORD, I will answer the heavens and they shall answer the earth; and the earth shall answer the grain, the wine, and the oil, and they shall answer Jezreel; and I will sow him for myself in the land. And I will have pity on Lo-ruhamah, and I will say to Lo-ammi, “You are my people”; and he shall say, “You are my God.” (Hosea 2:21–23)

Lord my God,

As the last breath of sunlight fades behind Red Mountain and the hush of evening settles over the desert, I lift my heart to You. The sky deepens into indigo, and the first stars blink into view—silent witnesses to Your faithfulness. The creosote is still now, the earth cooling beneath my feet, and even the wind seems to pause in reverence. Creation is listening. And so am I.

You promised, “I will answer,” and I believe You do. You speak to the heavens, and they to the earth, and the earth answers with life—grain, and wine, and oil—blessings I often take for granted. But tonight, under this unfolding sky, I hear the whisper of Your mercy in the quiet between breaths. I feel the stirring of seeds You’ve sown in barren places.

You have had pity on the unloved. You have called the forgotten, the cast-off, the ones like me—and You’ve said, “You are My people.” I say it back to You now, with everything in me: You are my God. Not because I’ve earned it. Not because I’m worthy. But because Your love is greater than my wandering.

Thank You for the promise of renewal—for restoring what was lost, for claiming what was once unclaimed. Thank You for sowing hope into dry ground. Even in this desert, You are planting something holy.

So tonight, beneath this canopy of stars, I rest in You. Speak, Lord. I am listening.

Amen.

May the God who sows mercy in the wilderness and calls us His own grant you peace this night and renew your hope with every star that shines above.
