Praying the Scriptures
Tuesday Evening Prayer
September 2, 2025
As servants of God we have commended ourselves in every way: through great endurance, in afflictions, hardships, calamities, beatings, imprisonments, riots, labors, sleepless nights, hunger… We are treated as impostors, and yet are true; as unknown, and yet are well known; as dying, and see—we are alive; as punished, and yet not killed; as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing everything. (2_Corinthians 6:4–5, 8b–10)
Lord,
As the sun slips behind the horizon and the sky turns to shades of rose and violet, I pause in the stillness of this September evening. The air is cooler now, carrying the quiet promise of rest, and I breathe deeply of Your peace.
In the day just past, I have felt both strength and weakness, honor and dishonor, joy and sorrow. Like Paul, I know the paradoxes of this journey: being seen as less than I am, yet held firmly in Your truth; overlooked by many, yet fully known by You; weary in body, yet alive in spirit because of Your sustaining hand.
O Lord, I confess how often I falter—when patience wears thin, when hope dims, when hardship feels heavy. Yet even in these moments, You remind me that my sufficiency is not in myself but in Christ who holds all things together. You turn sorrow into seeds of joy, poverty of spirit into riches of grace, and the emptiness of my hands into the fullness of possessing everything in You.
Thank You for the quiet mercies that have carried me through this day—the strength to endure, the courage to be faithful, and the assurance that nothing is wasted in Your kingdom. As the night deepens and the stars rise in their silent witness, I place my heart in Your care.
Grant me rest for my body, renewal for my spirit, and courage for the path that awaits tomorrow. May I serve You with integrity, patience, and hope, bearing witness to Your steadfast love in all seasons.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
May the Lord who turns sorrow into joy and weakness into strength grant you peace this night and courage for the day to come.
