Praying the Scriptures
Monday Evening Prayer
December 1, 2025
“Tell the daughter of Zion, Look, your king is coming to you, humble, and mounted on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.… Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!” — Matthew 21:5, 9
Lord,
As this quiet December night settles over the desert and the first day of a new month comes to a gentle close, I breathe deeply and rest my heart in the stillness You provide. The hush of Advent wraps around me like a soft mantle, reminding me that this is a season of holy waiting—of watching, listening, and leaning into Your promises.
Tonight, I hold close the words of Matthew: “Look, your king is coming to you… humble, and mounted on a donkey.” I let those words steady my spirit. I remember that You come not with force or frenzy, but with humility, peace, and a nearness that quiets every anxious place within me. As the crowds once cried, “Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord,” I join their ancient song in my own small way beneath this Advent sky.
Lord Jesus, I open myself to Your coming again. Teach me to wait with hope, to watch with trust, and to rest in the mystery of what You are doing in and around me. As the world grows darker outside my window, let Your light grow brighter in my heart. Let my soul become a cradle of welcome, a dwelling where Your peace can take root and flourish.
On this first night of December, I offer You my gratitude for the day now ending, my hopes for the days ahead, and my longing for the fullness of Your presence. Come to me, Lord—gently, humbly, and faithfully—as You have always done.
Amen.
May the peace of the coming Christ rest upon us, guiding our steps with hope, humility, and quiet joy as we continue our Advent journey.
