Praying the Scriptures
Monday Evening Prayer
December 15, 2025
“A voice cries out: ‘In the wilderness prepare the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain.’” — Isaiah 40:3–4
Lord Jesus,
As this Advent night settles softly around me, I hear the ancient cry echoing through the ages—“Prepare the way of the Lord.” I bring before You the wilderness places within me, the tangled paths and weary stretches where I have wandered without clarity or direction. In this quiet hour, I ask You to help me make straight the way of my heart, clearing the clutter of worry, pride, and haste so there is room for Your joyful presence to enter anew. Let Your light shine gently on the places I have avoided, so nothing within me stands in the way of Your coming.
Lift up, O Lord, the low valleys of my spirit—the discouragements, doubts, and hidden griefs that dip my heart into shadow. I lay before You the mountains of fear, impatience, and stubbornness that rise too high and block the path of Your peace. As I rest in the stillness of this night, I trust You to level the uneven places and smooth the roughness that I cannot fix on my own. Shape me with Your mercy, for only Your hands can make my heart a straight, open road for Your redeeming love.
Tonight I rejoice in the promise that You are always making all things new, even when I cannot yet see the fullness of Your work. In the quiet glow of Advent hope, I welcome You into every desert and every hidden corner of my life, believing that Your presence transforms even the barren ground into a place of joy. As I surrender this day to You, steady my spirit with the assurance that You are preparing the way—within me, around me, and ahead of me. Let this joy settle deep and lasting as I rest in Your faithful love.
Amen.
May Christ, who levels our rough places and fills our valleys with grace, guide us all into the deep joy and steadfast hope of His coming.
