Praying the Scriptures

Tuesday Evening Prayer

December 2, 2025

“This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Save us, we beseech you, O LORD! O LORD, we beseech you, give us success! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the LORD. We bless you from the house of the LORD.”Psalm 118:24-26

Lord,

As this quiet Tuesday night settles over me, I breathe deeply and rest in the stillness You have given. The day has drawn to a close, and in the gentle hush of Advent I remember the words of the psalmist: “This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Even now, as darkness folds around my home and the world grows still, I rejoice in Your faithfulness that has carried me from morning light to evening peace.

Tonight I come before You with a heart that waits and watches. Advent always teaches me to listen—to pause long enough to sense the nearness of the One who comes in Your name. I feel that yearning within me again, the longing for Your saving presence, just as the psalm cries out, “Save us, we beseech You, O LORD!” In these quiet moments, I offer my own plea: save me, keep me, guide me, and guard me through this season of holy expectation.

I thank You for the small graces of this day—unexpected kindness, moments of laughter, whispers of Your comfort, and the strength to face what needed to be done. “Give us success,” the psalm prays, and tonight I place tomorrow's tasks, challenges, and hopes into Your hands. Whatever “success” looks like in Your wisdom, Lord, shape my steps to walk in it. Let my efforts be aligned with Your will and my heart be steady in Your peace.

As Advent deepens, I lift my eyes toward Christ—the Blessed One who comes in Your name. In the stillness of this night, I bless Him with my lips and with my life. I bless You for sending Him, for the light He brings into every shadow, and for the promise that He will come again. Let this night prepare my soul to welcome Him with joy.

Hold me as I rest, Lord. Quiet my thoughts, steady my breathing, and fill my heart with the hope that never fades. As I wait for morning, I wait for You.

Amen.

May the God who made this day, who hears our cries, and who comes to us in steadfast love grant us rest, hope, and peace as we await the dawning light of Christ.
