Praying the Scriptures
Sunday Evening Prayer
February 15, 2026
“For thus says the high and lofty one who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with those who are contrite and humble in spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite.” — Isaiah 57:15
Holy One,
As the last light of this February Sunday fades from the high desert, I pause to watch the Florida Mountains to the east catch the final, fleeting glow of the setting sun. The air has turned crisp and cold, a sharp reminder of the winter still lingering over the valley, yet in this vast and quiet twilight, I feel a longing to draw nearer to You. I am struck by the silence of the scrubland and the immensity of the darkening sky, realizing how small I am in the midst of Your creation, and I come to You now not with grand gestures, but with a heart open to Your presence.
I confess that I often measure my worth by my own strength, forgetting that You, who dwell in eternity, have promised to reside with the humble and the contrite. My faith can feel as brittle as the dry grass, and I struggle to trust that You are working when I cannot see the results. In the gathering darkness, I ask You to revive my weary spirit and breathe life into the places within me that feel dormant. Let Your light break through the uncertainty of my human weakness, reminding me that You do not despise my fragility, but rather use it as the vessel for Your perfect power.
As the night fully settles over Deming and the stars emerge, I surrender my need for control and rest in the quiet confidence of Your grace. Just as the desert seeds wait patiently beneath the frost for the coming spring, help me to trust that You are bringing forth new growth from this small moment of prayer. Prepare me for the week ahead, not with the anxiety of striving, but with the peace of knowing You are already shaping the future, turning my small steps of trust into a path of renewal and hope.
Amen.
May the High and Lofty One who dwells in eternity abide with us all in our humility, turning the silence of this desert night into a reviving rest that prepares every heart for the dawn.
