Breaking the Cycle: Choosing Christ Today
“Listen! I am standing at the door, knocking; if you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to you and eat with you, and you with me.” — Revelation 3:20
Introduction
There is comfort in routine. We get used to the rhythms of life—following the crowd, delaying decisions, convincing ourselves that "tomorrow" will be a better time to act. We tell ourselves that we will commit to change when we feel stronger, when life is less complicated, or when the time is just right. But when it comes to our relationship with Jesus, delaying is the same as deciding against Him. There are no gray areas—He either is or isn’t our Savior and Lord.
Reflection
Imagine a man standing on a train platform, watching a train pull into the station. He knows the train is bound for a place where he longs to go—a place of peace, hope, and fulfillment. He has a ticket in his hand, paid for and offered freely. Yet he hesitates. He watches others board, but he remains on the platform, trapped in the comfort of familiarity. As the train departs, he tells himself, "I'll catch the next one."
How many of us live our lives like that man? We see the opportunity to step into God’s plan, yet we hesitate. We convince ourselves that we're not ready, that we need to be better, stronger, or wiser before making a commitment. But Jesus never said, "Come to me when you have it all figured out." He simply said, "Come."
Today is the day to take that step. Today is the day to choose Christ, to stop waiting for a more convenient time, and to answer the knock at the door of our hearts.
Application
Pastor Rick Warren provides a simple way to assess whether we are ready to commit to Christ. Consider these four questions:
1. Do I believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for me and rose again? (1 Corinthians 15:2-4)
2. Do I accept God's free forgiveness for my sins? (Romans 3:22-24)
3. Am I willing to switch to God's plan for my life? (Mark 1:16-18; Romans 12:2)
4. Do I express my desire for Christ to lead my life? (Romans 10:9)
If you answer "yes" to all of these, then the next step is simple: pray and commit your life to Christ.
Conclusion
Jesus is knocking. He isn’t asking for perfection, only a willing heart. The choice is ours—to continue in the cycle of delay or to step forward into the life He has prepared for us. The time for decision is now. Will you open the door?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I hear You knocking at the door of my heart. I confess that I have delayed and made excuses, but today I choose to open the door. I believe that Jesus Christ died for me and rose again. I accept Your forgiveness and surrender my life to You. Guide me in Your ways and strengthen me to follow You daily. Thank You for Your love, mercy, and grace. In Jesus' name, Amen.
