Verse of the Day for May 18, 2026
Hebrews 6:10
Remembered by God
“For God is not unrighteous, so as to forget your work and the labor of love which you showed toward his name, in that you served the saints, and still do serve them.”
The Word Before Us
There are many faithful acts of love that few people ever see. A quiet visit, a prayer offered in the early morning, a meal prepared, a burden carried, a word of encouragement spoken at just the right time, or a task done simply because it needed to be done may pass unnoticed by the world. Yet Hebrews 6:10 reminds us that nothing offered to God in love is lost before him. The Lord sees what others overlook, remembers what others forget, and receives humble service as an offering given in his name.
This verse gives comfort to weary servants of Christ. It does not flatter us or make our works the foundation of salvation. Rather, it points us to the righteousness and faithfulness of God. He is not unjust. He does not treat love as meaningless. He does not forget the ministry of his people, especially when that ministry is given to the saints, the gathered people of God. In a world where recognition is often uneven and gratitude can be brief, this Scripture steadies the heart with the quiet assurance that God remembers.
Understanding the Context
The letter to the Hebrews was written to believers who needed endurance. They were being urged not to drift away from Christ, not to grow dull in faith, and not to turn back under pressure. The writer of Hebrews had already spoken with seriousness about spiritual danger and the need to press on toward maturity. The surrounding passage contains both warning and encouragement, calling the readers to persevere in faith and not become sluggish, but to imitate those who inherit the promises through faith and patience.
Hebrews 6:10 comes as a tender word within that larger exhortation. After strong warnings, the writer expresses confidence that better things belong to these believers. Their past and continuing service mattered. Their love for God had been shown not merely in words, but in serving his people. That context matters because this verse is not a general promise of human achievement being rewarded. It is a pastoral encouragement to believers who are walking the costly road of faithfulness. Their works do not earn God’s grace, but their love-filled service bears witness to the grace already at work in them.
Living the Verse Today
This verse speaks directly to the hidden places of Christian discipleship. Many acts of obedience are not public. Much of love’s labor is ordinary, repeated, and easily forgotten by others. Parents, caregivers, pastors, teachers, volunteers, prayer warriors, faithful friends, and quiet servants often give themselves in ways that are never fully seen. Hebrews 6:10 tells us that God sees. More than that, God remembers with perfect justice and tender faithfulness.
That truth can guard us from bitterness when our service goes unnoticed. It can also purify our motives. We do not serve in order to be admired, but because we love the name of Christ and because his people are precious to him. When we help the saints, encourage the weak, welcome the lonely, teach the young, visit the suffering, or pray for those in need, we are not merely doing church work. We are showing love toward God’s name.
This verse also encourages perseverance. The writer does not only mention what they had done; he also says they still served. Faithful love continues. It may grow quieter with age, pain, loss, or weariness, but it does not become insignificant. Even a small act done in love can become holy when offered to God. The Lord who remembers our labor also sustains us for the work still before us. When our strength feels small, we may ask him to renew our love, deepen our humility, and keep our eyes fixed on Christ, who first served us with mercy beyond measure.
