Hope
Wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead—Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath.

The people to whom Paul wrote as part of the church in Thessalonica were new followers of Jesus. They had many questions and challenges in the midst of severe opposition from the Jews. Therefore it seems natural that Paul would inject hope into every chapter of 1 Thessalonians. In much of the book, Jesus is pictured as the hope of salvation—both for this life and when he returns to earth. This message was especially vital to this audience since the gospel originally came to them amidst great suffering and affliction (1 Thessalonians 1:6).
Paul encouraged the Thessalonians to hope, or “wait for” Jesus, who would rescue them from the coming wrath (v. 10). This phrase “wait for” implies looking forward, eagerly and expectantly, to the return of the Lord. This hope is a confident waiting and not a wishful thinking. Those who believe in and follow Christ can face life confidently despite their surrounding circumstances, and they can most assuredly wait in joyful expectation for his second coming.
Lord, I lift my eyes to focus on you. May I drink of your love and forgiveness, may I taste your beautiful words of truth. Please lift my heart today, come fill my mind with hope as I gaze upon your glorious face. Amen.In Jesus,
