2 Timothy 3:16-17
16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Let's delve into these verses:

"All Scripture is God-breathed…"
This phrase emphasizes the divine inspiration of the Scriptures. The term "God-breathed" (sometimes translated as "inspired by God") carries the notion that the Scriptures have their origin in God's very breath or spirit. They are not merely human words or thoughts but are communicated by God Himself.

"...and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness…"
This segment identifies the practical purposes of the Scriptures:
  • Teaching: The Scriptures provide doctrinal truths and the knowledge of God's will. They inform us about God's nature, His plan for humanity, and the path of salvation.
  • Rebuking: This means to point out error or sin. The Bible acts as a moral compass, highlighting where individuals or communities deviate from God's standards.
  • Correcting: Beyond just pointing out errors, the Bible also provides the solution or the way back. It offers guidance on how to realign oneself with God's will.
  • Training in righteousness: The Scriptures aren't merely about avoiding wrongdoing; they're also about proactively growing in virtue. They provide instructions on living a life that is pleasing to God, cultivating a godly character.
"...so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."
This phrase is the culmination of the previous thoughts. The ultimate goal of the Scriptures isn't just knowledge or avoidance of sin. Instead, it's to equip believers—referred to as "the servant of God"—for acts of service and goodness. The Scriptures prepare us to live out our faith in tangible, beneficial ways in the world.
