Hebrews 1:1-2
1 In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.
1. God's Communication in the Past: The phrase In the past signals that the author is reflecting on a previous era, contrasting it with the present. God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways highlights the diversity of God's methods of communication in the Old Testament, such as dreams, visions, and direct encounters.

2. God's Communication in the Present: But in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son represents a significant shift. The phrase last days is often used in the Bible to refer to the era of the Messiah and the fulfillment of God's promises. By stating that God has spoken through His Son, the author is asserting that Jesus is the culmination and ultimate expression of God's communication with humanity.

3. Jesus as the Heir and Creator: The next part of verse 2, whom he appointed heir of all things, conveys the idea that Jesus has been given authority over all creation. This is a significant claim, as it places Jesus in a position of ultimate power and dominion. And through whom also he made the universe further elevates Jesus, attributing to Him the role of Creator. This statement connects Jesus not only to the world of humanity but also to the entire universe.

In summary, Hebrews 1:1-2 offers a profound statement about the nature of God's communication with humanity and the centrality of Jesus Christ in the Christian faith. It establishes a link between the past, when God spoke through the prophets, and the present, where God speaks through Jesus, positioning Him as the heir of all things and the creator of the universe. This opening passage sets the tone for the rest of the Book of Hebrews, which continues to explore the significance of Jesus and His role in God's plan for salvation.
