Praying the Scriptures
Sunday Evening Prayer
July 21, 2024
My soul longs, indeed it faints for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God. Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, at your altars, O Lord of hosts, my King and my God. Happy are those who live in your house, ever singing your praise. (Psalm 84:2–4)
O Lord of Hosts,
As the day draws to a close, our hearts and souls long for Your presence. We yearn for the courts of the Lord, where our spirits find joy and peace in Your love. In the stillness of this evening, we seek Your face and the comfort of Your embrace.
Our hearts and flesh sing for joy to the living God. Just as the sparrow finds a home and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young at Your altars, O Lord of hosts, our King and our God, we too find refuge in You. May our homes be places where Your presence dwells, where our hearts rest and our spirits are renewed.
Blessed are those who dwell in Your house, ever singing Your praise. As we close our eyes to sleep, let our minds and hearts be filled with thoughts of Your goodness and mercy. Guard us through the night, and grant us the grace to awaken with the morning light, ready to serve You with renewed strength and faith.
We thank You, Lord, for Your unfailing love and for the promise of Your presence. May we always find our home in You, now and forever.
Amen.
I hope this prayer brings you comfort and peace through the night.
