Praying the Scriptures

Saturday Evening Prayer

August 3, 2024

The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world came into being through him; yet the world did not know him. He came to what was his own, and his own people did not accept him. But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God. (John 1:9–12)

Heavenly Father,

As night falls and the world grows quiet, we gather in Your presence, thankful for the light You bring into our lives. In the words of the Apostle John, we are reminded of the true Light, which enlightens everyone, coming into the world.

Lord, You have given us the gift of Your Son, the true Light. As we reflect on His coming, we are grateful for the grace and truth we receive through Him. We confess that sometimes, like the world, we do not recognize Him or fully welcome Him into our daily lives. Help us, O God, to open our hearts anew so that we may receive Him fully and truly become children of God.

As we prepare to rest, we pray for those who still walk in darkness and who have yet to see Your Light. May Your Spirit guide us to be bearers of Your light, sharing the love and truth of Jesus with those around us.

Protect us through the night, comfort those in distress, and bring rest to those who are weary. Let Your peace dwell within us and around us, and renew our spirits for the day to come.

We thank You for Your love, a love so profound that it transforms us into Your children. In the blessed name of Jesus, the Light of the World, we pray.

Amen.

May this prayer bring peace and comfort to your evening.
