Praying the Scriptures
Sunday Evening Prayer
August 11, 2024
How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of the messenger who announces peace, who brings good news, who announces salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns.” Listen! Your sentinels lift up their voices, together they sing for joy; for in plain sight they see the return of the Lord to Zion. (Isaiah 52:7–8)
Heavenly Father,
As the day closes its curtains and the hush of evening falls upon us, we remember the words of the prophet Isaiah, "How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of the messenger who announces peace, who brings good news, who announces salvation, who says to Zion, 'Your God reigns.'"
Lord, we are thankful for the messengers You send who traverse mountains, both real and metaphorical, to bring us the gospel of peace. As we settle into the calm of this night, let our hearts hold fast to this good news, the assurance of Your reign over all things.
Watch over us, O God, as the watchmen watch and wait. Let our sleep be restful and undisturbed, secure in the knowledge that You, who keeps Israel, will neither slumber nor sleep. Guide us through this night under Your watchful eye, that we may rise with the morning light, renewed and ready to walk in the path of Your peace.
In the quiet moments of this night, stir our spirits to feel the joy of Your salvation, and strengthen our resolve to be messengers of Your peace in our thoughts, words, and deeds.
In the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord,
Amen.
I hope this prayer brings you comfort and peace through the night.
