Praying the Scriptures

Thursday Evening Prayer

August 15, 2024

In our prayers for you we always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, for we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love that you have for all the saints, because of the hope laid up for you in heaven. You have heard of this hope before in the word of the truth, the gospel. (Colossians 1:3–5)

Gracious and Loving God,

As the day comes to a close and the night surrounds us, we pause to reflect on Your boundless love and unending grace. Your word in Isaiah reminds us of the peace and righteousness that flow like rivers and waves when we heed Your commandments and walk in Your ways.

“O that you had paid attention to my commandments! Then your peace would have been like a river, and your righteousness like the waves of the sea.”

Lord, we yearn for this peace, the deep and abiding tranquility that only You can provide. We confess our moments of distraction and disobedience, the times when we have strayed from Your path. Forgive us, Lord, and draw us back to You with Your loving-kindness.

Help us to trust in Your wisdom and guidance, knowing that Your commandments are not burdens but blessings, leading us to the fullness of life. As we lay down to rest, fill our hearts with Your peace, like a gentle river that soothes and restores. May Your righteousness wash over us like the waves of the sea, cleansing and renewing our spirits.

We lift up our loved ones, our communities, and the world to You, asking for Your peace to reign in every heart and home. Grant us the strength to follow Your ways, and may our lives reflect Your love and righteousness to all we encounter.

In Your holy name, we pray.

Amen.

May this prayer bring you peace and comfort as you end your day.
