Praying the Scriptures

Thursday Evening Prayer

August 29, 2024

Remember your leaders, those who spoke the word of God to you; consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith. … Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings; for it is well for the heart to be strengthened by grace, not by regulations about food, which have not benefited those who observe them. (Hebrews 13:7, 9)

Gracious and Eternal God,

As the day draws to a close and the night unfolds its peaceful embrace, we come before You with hearts full of gratitude. We thank You for the gift of this day and the many ways You have guided and sustained us.

Lord, Your Word reminds us to remember those who have spoken Your truth into our lives, those who have led us by their faithful example. Tonight, we recall their teachings and reflect on the outcome of their lives. May we imitate their faith, holding fast to the truths they proclaimed with unwavering conviction.

Guard our hearts, O God, from being led astray by diverse and strange teachings. Ground us in the grace that comes from You, which strengthens our souls and keeps us secure in Your love. Help us to discern what is true and right, and to cling to the hope that Your grace offers.

As we prepare to rest, we surrender our worries and burdens to You, trusting in Your steadfast love. May Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, fill our hearts and minds, and may we awaken refreshed, ready to follow You with renewed faith and courage.

In the name of Jesus Christ, who is the same yesterday, today, and forever, we pray.

Amen.

May this prayer bring you peace and comfort as you end your day.
