Praying the Scriptures

Thursday Evening Prayer

August 8, 2024

Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves. Let each of you look not to your own interests, but to the interests of others. Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 2:3–5)

Heavenly Father,

As the sun sets and the calm of evening envelops us, we come before You with humble hearts. Help us, Lord, to embody the spirit of Your Son, Jesus Christ, who walked in humility and grace. Teach us to value others above ourselves, not looking to our own interests but to the interests of those around us.

In our interactions, both near and far, may we have the same mindset as Christ Jesus, who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to exploit. Instead, He made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant. Let this truth resonate deeply within us, transforming our hearts and minds.

Grant us the strength to serve our families, our friends, and our communities with the selflessness that Jesus showed. As we lay down to rest, renew our spirits, and prepare us to rise with a renewed commitment to live out Your love and humility.

In the name of Jesus, our example and savior, we pray,

Amen.

May this prayer bring you peace and comfort as you end your day.
