Praying the Scriptures
Friday Evening Prayer
October 18, 2024
The night is far gone, the day is near. Let us then lay aside the works of darkness and put on the armor of light. (Romans 13:12)
O Holy One,
As the shadows lengthen and this day meets its end, I come before You in humble prayer, my heart filled with gratitude for Your enduring presence. You command us, Lord, with words both simple and profound, to love You with all our heart, soul, and mind, and to cherish our neighbor as ourselves.
In the quiet of this October evening, under the expansive New Mexican sky, I pause to reflect on Your greatest commandments. Help me, O God, to embody this love that knows no bounds, to see Your face in every person I meet, and to serve You in all that I do.
Grant me the courage, Lord, to act with kindness and compassion, even when the path is steep or the night unyielding. May my love for You ignite a light that guides my steps and a warmth that comforts those around me.
As the coolness of the night wraps around us, let us remember those without shelter or warmth, those who hunger for both food and understanding. Stir in me a restless desire to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly alongside You and my neighbor.
Bless this evening, O Creator, with peace and restful hearts. May we rise with the dawn, renewed and ready to live out the commandments You have placed upon our hearts. In Your most holy name, I pray,
Amen.
May this prayer bring you peace and comfort this evening.
