Praying the Scriptures
Friday Morning Prayer
October 18, 2024
The night is far gone, the day is near. Let us then lay aside the works of darkness and put on the armor of light. (Matthew 22:37–39)
Lord of the Harvest,
As the chill of October mornings wraps around me and the leaves display their brilliant final acts, I come before You with a heart seeking warmth and wisdom. Your greatest commandments—to love You with all my heart, soul, and mind, and to love my neighbor as myself—resonate deeply as I witness the change of seasons.
Creator of all, help me to love You not just in quiet moments of prayer but in all the bustling activities of my day. Let my work and my rest be a living hymn of praise to You. Kindle in me a love that is vibrant and active, a love that reaches out like the sunlight breaking through autumn clouds.
Teach me, Father, to see my neighbor not only as the one next door but as every soul I encounter. In the smiles of friends and in the faces of strangers, help me to recognize the image of Christ. May my actions reflect a love that does not calculate but generously gives, like the trees that freely shed their leaves in this golden season.
As the earth prepares to rest in the coolness of the coming winter, prepare my heart to be a sanctuary of warmth and welcome, a place where Your love is sheltered and then radiated outward.
Thank You for the beauty of this world and the reminder in every sunrise that Your mercies are new each morning. May this day be a testament to the love I bear for You and for all Your creation.
In Jesus’ name, I pray,
Amen.
May this prayer bring you peace and inspiration for the day ahead.
