Praying the Scriptures

Monday Evening Prayer

October 21, 2024

Another angel with a golden censer came and stood at the altar; he was given a great quantity of incense to offer with the prayers of all the saints on the golden altar that is before the throne. And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, rose before God from the hand of the angel. (Revelation 8:3–4)

Heavenly Father,

As dusk settles over the New Mexican desert and the sky blooms with the soft glow of twilight, I come before You in humble adoration, my heart open like the vast expanse above me.

Lord, as I stand in this serene silence, I am reminded of the vision from Revelation, where an angel stood at the altar, holding a golden censer filled with the prayers of all the saints. Let my prayer tonight mingle with those sacred offerings, rising before You like the incense of old, a fragrant reminder of Your ever-present grace.

Father, as the angel offered incense with the prayers of Your people, let my words and thoughts find favor in Your sight. Grant that they may ascend to Your throne, pure and pleasing, carried by the gentle evening breezes that stir the chaparral and mesquite around me.

On this October evening, I ask for peace within and peace around me. Protect this land, bless its people, and guide us in Your wisdom. As the stars begin their watch, may Your love be the light that guides us through the night.

And as the incense cloud filled the temple, may Your presence fill my life, permeating every moment with Your divine mystery and mercy. Let this night be a sacred space, a pause between the cares of days past and the challenges of tomorrow.

In the name of Jesus, who intercedes for us at Your right hand, I pray.

Amen.

May this prayer bring peace and reflection to your evening.
