Praying the Scriptures

Thursday Evening Prayer

October 31, 2024

Let those who fear the LORD say, “His steadfast love endures forever.” Out of my distress I called on the LORD; the LORD answered me and set me in a broad place. With the LORD on my side I do not fear. What can mortals do to me? (Psalm 118:4–6)

O Lord,

On this crisp Halloween evening, as the desert sun dips behind the mesas and the children don their festive guises, I come to You in prayer. Let those who fear the Lord now say, "His steadfast love endures forever."

In the shadows of the Sangre de Cristo mountains, I called on You, and from the vast expanse, You answered and set me in a broad place. The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can anyone do to me?

As lanterns glow softly beneath the starlit New Mexican sky and laughter echoes through the cool air, I am reminded of Your presence, which comforts and shields me. Your love, O Lord, is a constant in the shifting sands of life.

Keep us safe as we celebrate this evening, enfold us in Your peace as we enjoy the company of community and the joy of children's laughter. With Your grace surrounding us, we fear no darkness or night.

Bless us with the warmth of Your love on this enchanted evening, and let us always walk in the light of Your truths.

Amen.

May this prayer bring you peace and comfort as you end your day.
