Praying the Scriptures
Wednesday Evening Prayer
October 23, 2024
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all consolation, who consoles us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to console those who are in any affliction with the consolation with which we ourselves are consoled by God. For just as the sufferings of Christ are abundant for us, so also our consolation is abundant through Christ. (2 Corinthians 1:3–5)
O Father of mercies and God of all comfort,
As the sun dips below the horizon this crisp October evening, painting the sky with hues of orange and pink, I come before You with a grateful heart. Thank You, Lord, for being my refuge and strength, a very present help in times of need.
In this quiet hour, I reflect on Your boundless grace, for You are the source of every consolation that sustains me. As You comfort us in all our affliction, enable me, O Lord, to extend that same comfort to others who are burdened and weary.
Let the chill in the air remind me of the warmth of Your love, enveloping those who suffer in the cold embrace of grief or pain. May Your Holy Spirit inspire me to be a bearer of Your peace, offering solace to the brokenhearted and hope to the dispirited.
Grant me the wisdom to see beyond my trials, recognizing that the suffering I endure can be a conduit of comfort to someone else. Help me to share the comfort I receive from You generously and without reservation.
As the leaves turn and fall, remind me of the seasons of life, each with its purpose under heaven. Teach me to trust in Your timing and Your perfect plan, knowing that You work all things for good for those who love You.
Bless this night, O Lord, and all who are in need of Your tender mercies. May we rest in the assurance of Your unfailing love and wake to the new challenges and joys of tomorrow, strengthened and renewed by Your grace.
Amen.
May this prayer bring you comfort and strength as you reflect on God's promises this evening.
