Praying the Scriptures
Friday Evening Prayer
November 22, 2024
Be patient, therefore, beloved, until the coming of the Lord. The farmer waits for the precious crop from the earth, being patient with it until it receives the early and the late rains. (James 5:7)
Lord of the Harvest,
As the sun sets beyond the mesas and the chill of November whispers through the high desert, I come before You in humble patience. As the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, patient for the early and late rains, so my soul waits for You.
In the quiet of this evening, under the expansive sky that You have painted with the last light, help me to cultivate a heart of steadfastness. Let me be grounded in faith as the roots of the piñon tree, drawing sustenance from Your eternal spring.
As the stars begin to pierce the twilight, remind me of Your constancy. You who orchestrate the rhythm of seasons and the dance of the celestial bodies, guide my spirit to persevere in the face of trials and tribulations.
In Your wisdom, You have placed us here in this land of enchantment, amidst the beauty of the desert and the strength of the mountains. Teach me to see Your hand in the small wonders of the night—the howl of the distant coyote, the rustle of the chamisa, and the gentle hush of the Rio Grande.
Grant me the patience to await Your will, to listen for Your voice in the silence of the desert night. May the peace of this evening envelop me as I rest in Your promise, trusting that just as You care for the arid land and its creatures, so too will You care for me.
In Your holy name,
Amen.
May this prayer bring you peace and comfort this evening.
