Praying the Scriptures

Monday Evening Prayer

November 18, 2024

Rejoice greatly, O daughter Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter Jerusalem! Lo, your king comes to you; triumphant and victorious is he, humble and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. (Zechariah 9:9)

O Lord of my days and keeper of my soul,

As the sun sets beyond Red Mountian, coloring the New Mexican sky with hues of fire and peace, I come before You in humble adoration.

"Rejoice greatly, O daughter Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter Jerusalem! Lo, your king comes to you; triumphant and victorious is he, humble and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey."

In this quiet evening hour, as the chill of November whispers through the pinon pines, let my spirit rejoice in Your presence. For You, O God, come not in grandeur that overwhelms, but in gentleness that subdues our fears, and in humble grace that lifts our burdens.

In Your wisdom, You chose the lowly donkey, a beast of burden, to bear the Savior into Jerusalem. Teach me also, O Lord, to bear my duties with such grace, to embrace humility as my strength, and to serve with joy the tasks You lay before me.

As the night descends and the stars begin to pierce the vast southwestern sky, remind me of Your victory, promised and sure. Let my sleep be peaceful under Your watchful eyes, and awaken me with a heart ready to continue the journey towards Your holy mount.

In Your mercy, watch over this land and its people; bless our community with the harmony and hope that was felt in Jerusalem on that day of Your coming. Lead us into a new dawn with hearts ready to celebrate Your everlasting peace.

In the name of Jesus Christ, our humble King and triumphant Savior, I pray.

Amen.

May this prayer bring solace and inspiration as you end your day in reflection and peace.
