Praying the Scriptures

Monday Evening Prayer

November 4, 2024

But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering, and to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant. (Hebrews 12:22–24a)

Heavenly Father,

As the twilight deepens on this crisp November evening in New Mexico, I draw near in spirit to Your celestial gathering—Mount Zion, the heavenly Jerusalem. My heart leaps, joining the innumerable angels in festive assembly, and I am comforted by the communion of the saints who have walked this path before me.

I give thanks for the enduring city You have prepared for us, and I am humbled to be part of Your grand design. As the stars begin to grace the night sky, I reflect on the righteousness of Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, whose sprinkled blood speaks more powerfully than that of Abel.

Lord, let His voice resonate within me, guiding my actions and softening my heart. As the cool air embraces me, I seek to embody the peace and justice that His sacrifice offers. Help me to live in gratitude and awe, mindful of Your sacred assembly, and motivated by the love that You have poured out upon the world.

In quiet moments of reflection, amidst the serene landscapes of this land, I feel Your presence and the weight of the eternal covenant, binding and beautiful. Renew my spirit, O God, as I walk in the light of Your teachings and under the gaze of Your watchful eyes.

In Jesus' name, I pray,

Amen.

May this prayer bring solace and inspiration as you end your day in reflection and peace.
