Praying the Scriptures
Saturday Evening Prayer
November 23, 2024
I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. The hired hand, who is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away—and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. (John 10:11–12)
O Holy Shepherd, who guards the flock with unceasing love,
I come before You this quiet November evening beneath the vast New Mexican sky with a heart seeking Your peace.
"I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. The hired hand, who is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away—and the wolf snatches them and scatters them."
In Your words, Lord, I find the courage to stand firm in the face of trials, as You are the Shepherd who never flees. In the chill of the evening, as the desert cools and the stars begin to blanket the sky, Your love enfolds us, stronger than any adversity we might face.
Teach me to embody Your steadfast spirit, to not waver when challenges loom, but to protect and care for those around me with all the love and sacrifice You have shown. Let me be a beacon of Your unwavering dedication in my community, a keeper of faith, a defender of the weak.
As the night deepens, wrap Your gentle arms around all who feel lost or alone and guide us back to Your fold. Renew our spirits so that we may face the new day with renewed hope and a deepened commitment to walk in Your ways.
In the grace of Your eternal watch, I rest my prayers, trusting in the Shepherd’s care.
Amen.
May this prayer bring peace and comfort to your evening.
