Praying the Scriptures

Sunday Evening Prayer

November 17, 2024

What will one answer the messengers of the nation? “The LORD has founded Zion, and the needy among his people will find refuge in her.” (Isaiah 14:32)

Lord of all creation,

As I stand beneath the vast New Mexico sky this tranquil November evening, I come before You in humble prayer. Your creation, resplendent under the setting sun, reminds me of Your majesty and care.

What answer shall be given to the envoys of the nation? "The Lord has founded Zion, and in her the afflicted of His people find refuge." Inspired by these words from Isaiah, I am reminded of Your promise, O Lord, to be a sanctuary for the weary and a steadfast protector for the oppressed.

In the quiet of this hour, I seek Your presence, for in You alone my soul finds refuge. You have founded Zion as a haven of peace; may our hearts mirror this divine intent. Let this community be a place where the afflicted find solace and the downtrodden receive Your mercy.

Bless this land with Your grace, and guide our actions so that we may serve as instruments of Your peace. Help us to uphold the cause of justice and to walk humbly in Your ways. Strengthen us, O God, to carry the burdens of our brothers and sisters, offering comfort as You comfort us.

As the stars begin to pierce the evening's canvas, let Your light illuminate our paths. May our lives reflect Your love, and may our deeds speak of Your goodness. For in You, O Lord, we find our refuge and strength, now and forevermore.

In the name of Jesus, our cornerstone and hope,

Amen.

I hope this prayer brings you comfort and peace through the night.
