Praying the Scriptures
Sunday Evening Prayer
November 3, 2024
This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in him there is no darkness at all. (1 John 1:5)
Heavenly Father,
As the chill of November whispers through the fading light, I come before You in the quiet of this evening, reflecting on Your holy word that declares, "God is light and in him there is no darkness at all." Lord, in the gathering dusk, Your truth shines like a beacon in the encroaching night.
In Your light, I seek clarity. Dispel the shadows that linger in my heart—the doubts, the fears, the unresolved moments of my day. Illuminate them with Your gracious light, and guide me to peace and understanding. Where there is confusion, bring wisdom; where there is sorrow, bring comfort; and where there is weariness, renew my strength.
As the stars begin to punctuate the sky, reminding me of Your infinite creation, help me to trust in Your eternal goodness. May Your light envelop me, protecting me from the darkness that seeks to seclude my spirit. In the security of Your radiant presence, let me rest.
Tonight, as I lay down, I remember those who might feel lost in the darkness. Shine Your light upon them, Lord, that they too might find their way to Your love and truth. May we all dwell in the light of Your compassion and grace.
In Your holy name, I pray,
Amen.
I hope this prayer brings you comfort and peace through the night.
